The unemployment rate in Taiwan saw a slight decline of 0.02% to 3.87% in August 2018, when compared to the same period last year, according to the latest manpower survey results from the Directorate-General Budget, Accounting and Statistics.
The number of unemployed persons was 461,000 in August, steady from the previous year.
Total employment increased by 82,000 (+0.72%) in August when compared with that of the previous year.
Compared with that of the previous year, employment in agriculture, the goods-producing sector and the services-providing sector increased by 5,000 (+0.93%), 22,000 (+0.55%) and 54,000 (+0.81%) in August, respectively.
Meanwhile, Taiwan’s labour force participation rate was 59.19% in August, which rose by 0.18% from that of the previous year.
Taiwan News reports that President Tsai Ing-wen said signs such as economic growth, the unemployment rate, and the stock market index all showed that Taiwan’s economy was still moving forward.
