A number of cab drivers in the city of Chennai went on strike to protest against ridesharing firms such as Ola and Uber, reports Business Today. The cab drivers, who are affiliated with the Centre of India Trade Unions, protested against the ‘measly incentives, ambitious targets and lack of transparency in fare charges in cab aggregator companies’ and claimed that taxi drivers are ‘being exploited by the taxi aggregators.’ Taxi drivers in Chennai protested and raised slogans asking the government to protect the livelihood of around 60,000 families involved in the cab service business. As a result of the strike, Ola and Uber prices surged up to three times the normal price in Chennai during the protests.
