Hong Kong’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for the period of April to June, fell to 3.1%, a 0.1% decrease when compared to the previous period ending in May and its lowest level since February 2014, according to figures from the Census and Statistics Department.
Total employment increased by approximately 4,200 from 3.81 million period ending in May to 3.82 million in the June period. Over the same period, the labour force also increased by approximately 3,000.
“The labour market remained in full employment and tightened further during April-June 2017,” Secretary for Labour and Welfare Law Chi-kwong said. “Employment growth remained robust. In the near term, the overall labour market conditions are expected to remain favourable on the back of sturdy labour demand. Yet, we will stay vigilant and closely monitor how the various external uncertainties evolve and affect the local economy down the road.”
