Demand for IT professionals in Vietnam is expected to increase in 2018 according to data from job site Vietnamworks, which predicts that 80,000 IT personnel will join the market in 2017-2018.

Vietnamworks also forecasts a lack of approximately 70,000 personnel by late 2018. Demand for IT personnel reached its peak in 2016, when 15,000 IT workers were recruited.

Meanwhile, data from IT recruitment site TopDev showed that the demand for IT developers last year rose by 45% against 2012. Demand for IT programmers is expected to grow in 2018 and the market will need approximately 350,00 new personnel. However, the labour market can now offer only about 200,000 people, according to TopDev.

Nguyen Huu Binh, managing director of TopDev, stated that the IT sector in Vietnam has become an ideal destination for leading international IT companies which has led to the growing demand for developer jobs.

According to Vietnam’s Ministry of Information and Communications, the IT sector had over 600,000 personnel, including 300,000 on hardware and electronics. The Ministry also predicted that Vietnam would seek about 1.2 million IT labourers by 2020.
