India’s Union IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad has said that reports of large-scale job losses in the IT sector are “highly exaggerated and unfounded”, reports the Hindustan Times. Prasad looked to programs such as Digital India to illustrate that employment prospects for the IT sector were encouraging. Data from Naukri showed that IT hiring was down as protectionism and visa restrictions in the US are on the rise. “India’s domestic IT market offers strong prospects for industry growth even if global markets were to face challenges,” Prasad said. “Indian IT sector employment prospects, both in the near and long-term are expected to be broadly positive and encouraging for the future.
