  • The number of unemployed workers worldwide rose by 4.2 million in 2012 to more than 197 million, a 5.9% unemployment rate.
  • Some 39 million workers worldwide have dropped out of the employment market.
  • The number of people seeking  employment is expected to rise to more than 210 million during the next five years.
  • Almost 74 million people in the 15 to 24 age group are unemployed – a 12.6% youth unemployment rate in 2012.
  • Around 870 million workers lived with their families on less than US$2 per day in 2011.
  • Another 660 million workers live just above the poverty line, on between US$2 and $4 a day in 2011.
