The Canadian staffing index released by the Association of Canadian Search, Employment and Staffing Services edged down to a reading of 95 in September from August’s reading of 96. Still, it was up 4% on a year-over-year basis.

However, September of this year had one fewer working day than September 2020.

“Adjusting for the number of working days, the volume of business in September was up roughly 10% year-over-year,” said Timothy Landhuis, director of research, North America, at Staffing Industry Analysts, which produces the report in conjunction with ACSESS.

Each month’s index is based upon the number of billed hours reported by a monthly panel of staffing firms. The index value of 100 corresponds to the size of the industry in July 2008, when the index began; the index is not adjusted for seasonal factors.
