California and Nevada post highest jobless rates among all states in September

California and Nevada recorded the highest unemployment rates among all states in September at 7.5% each, according to data released today by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The state with the lowest jobless rate in September was Nebraska at 2.0%, followed by Utah at 2.4%.

In comparison, the national unemployment rate for the US in September was 4.8%.

Rhode Island posted the largest month-over-month decrease in its unemployment rate. Its rate fell to 5.2% in September from 5.8% in August.

Massachusetts was the only state to post a month-over-month increase in its jobless rate, rising to 5.2% in September from 5.0% in August.
