Artificial intelligence and blockchain are among six tech trends that will govern IT skills in demand this year, according to Hays Australia. The full list of six trends includes:
Blockchain — As more firms realise the opportunities that blockchain offers, they are working to find the workers among the limited supply of experts.
AI and machine learning — Firms will increasingly seek IT professionals with this skill set as they look for ways to remain competitive and drive innovation, according to Hays.
Data science and engineering — Skills in demand include R, Python, Scala and/or SQL with data visualisation tools. Data scientists with experience in Hadoop are also in demand.
Cloud engineering — Cloud engineers with broad skill sets across multiple technologies are in demand. AWS and Azure dominate this space.
DevOps — Demand is particularly strong for candidates with a development background.
Cyber Security — Sought after skills include penetration testing and intrusion detection, DevSecOps, cloud security and encryption.
