Nepal and Japan have signed a memorandum of cooperation that will see Nepal send workers to Japan, reports Setopati. Last year, Japan’s cabinet approved draft legislation to bring in overseas blue-collar workers in sectors struggling with labour shortages. From 1 April 2019, Japan will accept about 345,000 foreign workers to work in 14 different sectors. While all the 14 sectors are open to workers from Nepal, the number of workers to be accepted by sector has yet to be decided. Last week, the Philippine and Japanese government also signed a memorandum of cooperation laying the groundwork for a more secure recruitment and employment of skilled workers between the two countries.
