The unemployment rate in the Philippines declined to 5.4% in July from 5.6% a year ago, according to data from the Philippines Statistics Authority.
Meanwhile, the employment rate in the Philippines stood at 94.6%, up from 94.4% last year.
Regions with lowest employment rates were Ilocos Region (93.5%), Central Luzon (93.7%), Calabarzón (93.7%), Bicol Region (93.7%), and National Capital Region (93.9%).
The labour force participation rate in July 2018 was estimated at 60.1% compared to 60.6% last year. The labour force population consists of the employed and the unemployed 15 years old and over.
The Authority grouped workers into three broad sectors: agriculture, industry and services sector.
In July 2018, workers in the services sector comprised the largest proportion of the population who are employed. These workers made up 57.5% of the total employed in July 2018, up from 55.6% last year. Workers in the agriculture sector comprised the second largest group making up 23.1% of the total employed in July 2018, down from 25.2%, while workers in the industry sector made up the smallest group registering 19.4% of the total employed, up slightly from 19.2% last year.
