Job advertisements in New Zealand increased by 5.0% in August when compared to last year, according to data from ANZ Bank.
On a month-to-month and seasonally-adjusted basis, ANZ Job Ads increased 0.6% in August, a slowdown from last month’s 3.2% rise.
“Our expectation is that the unemployment rate will remain broadly stable around 4.5%, consistent with continuing tightness in the labour market,” ANZ Bank stated. “But if weak business expectations and intentions start to become a self-fulfilling prophecy, there is a risk that we could see some softening in job ads growth from here. And if that weakens, strength in the labour market could start to ebb.”
Among the regions, Auckland reported the most job ads followed by Wellington.
By sectors, the Construction, Utilities, Manufacturing, Transport reported having the most job ads in August, followed by Finance, Professional, Scientific, Real Estate, Admin.
