The number of foreign workers in Japan surpassed 1 million for the first time last year, reports Channel News Asia with data from the Labour Ministry. The figure is up 20% from the previous year as the country struggles to fill in labour shortages due to an aging and shrinking population. Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has stated that Japan should put the elderly to work as well as more women.
