A Singaporean man operating without an employment agency license was fined SGD 30,000 (USD 20,714), the Singapore Ministry of Manpower announced on Tuesday. In addition, Mohamed Yasin, 45, is also barred from holding an employment agency license.
The Ministry of Manpower reported that Yasin performed employment agency activities without a valid license between November 2014 and May 2015. Three workers had engaged him to secure employment in Canada and paid thousands of dollars for nonexistent jobs.
Performing employment agency activities without a license can result in fines of up to SGD 80,000 and two years in prison, according to the ministry.
