India – Hiring set to grow by 10-15% in 2017, led by IT and Telecom sectors

Hiring activity is set to grow in India with an expected 10% to 15% rise, according to the latest TimesJobs.com Job Outlook Survey 2016-2017.

The survey polled more than 2,000 employees across India Inc. (India’s formal sector). The survey showed that 30% of organisations felt the IT and telecom sectors will hire the biggest numbers, 20% said the healthcare sector and 15% said manufacturing will be the top employment generator. Another 15% voted for automobile and 10% for infrastructure and retail sectors.

“There is a clear paradigm shift in the Indian Economy, with the support of the government’s efforts and focus on IT, entrepreneurship and manufacturing, India Inc. is steering itself for strong growth that is seen to be impacting job growth and employment in the country next year,” Nilanjan Roy, Head of Strategy, Times Business Solutions, said.

The focus on gender diversity will also continue to take shape in 2017, according to the Timesjobs.com. The survey showed that more than 70% of organisations plan to increase the ratio of women in their workforce. This is a 10% rise in employer expectations compared to 2016.

Moreover, 60% of employers foresee a higher demand for women professionals at the middle-level positions, 20% see maximum hires at the entry level while another 20% say they will hire women professional for CXO level leadership roles in 2017.

According to the survey, the most optimistic hiring expectations are for middle-level professionals. The study reveals professionals with 5-10 years of experience will see the maximum demand across sectors.

Among the cities, nearly 45% of organisations said jobs opportunities will be highest in metro cities, including, Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Chennai.

Overall, TimesJobs Job Outlook Survey 2016-17 reports the Q2 and Q4 of 2017 will be the hottest quarters for hiring by India Inc.
