India – Hiring to increase by 14.5% in 2016

Recruitment in India is expected to increase this year with companies creating 14.5% more jobs this year compared to 2015, according to the India Skills Report 2016, a study conducted by recruitment agencies.

The results this year showed a minor improvement in the Employability Index from last year, rising to 38.12% from 37.22%. The Index assesses the employability of 520,000 candidates using Wheebox’s Employability Skill Test.Hiring sentiment also looks positive, with employers across sectors expecting an average increase of about 14% from last year’s hiring numbers.

The report shows that the hiring boom will be led by pharmaceuticals and healthcare industry which will create 134,000 new jobs, a 20% increase from last year. The pharmaceuticals and healthcare sector mostly prefers to look for candidates through job portals (25%) and HR consultants (18.75%). Job creation in the pharma and healthcare sector grew by 7.2% in 2015.

According to the study, there is an urgent need for skilled manpower in R&D, quality assurance (QA), intellectual property (IP), manufacturing, sales and marketing.
